BFP data shows fire incidents rising sharply every summer: an average of nine fires a day in March alone, enough that the government designated the month Fire Prevention Month by presidential proclamation. Electrical overloads, unattended open flames and LPG-related accidents drive most of these calls, worsened by aging infrastructure and rising electricity demand as households run cooling equipment harder during the heat.

A heat index in the Danger category already carries elevated health risk for someone standing still in the shade. For a BFP firefighter working a structure fire in full PPE, the risk compounds. Turnout gear blocks the evaporative cooling that would normally offset high ambient heat and humidity.
