Before equipping a church or preparing a first service, the same practical questions come up again and again. Here are short answers, each with a link to the full guide on that topic.
How long does it take to fill the baptistry?
Plan for 130 to 185 gallons for the pool set up (205 x 80 x 60 cm / 81 x 31 x 24 in), which takes roughly 15 to 30 minutes on a garden hose depending on flow rate, or the equivalent in water containers where no hose access is nearby. Budget that time before the congregation arrives, on top of any time needed to warm the water.
Does the water need to be heated, and how?
Unlike a medical cooling tub, water around 86°F (30°C) keeps the immersion comfortable for the candidate. Three methods work: mixing hot and cold water while filling, using a supplemental heater that is removed and unplugged before anyone enters the water, or filling the night before with hot water from the building and covering the pool to limit heat loss.
How many people can the pool hold?
The pool holds up to two adults at once: the candidate lying full length, and the officiant beside them in the water. Additional helpers can stand at the edge to assist with entry and exit.
Does the baptistry have steps or a handrail for getting in and out?
The baptistry itself does not include a built-in step or handrail. Plan for a stable step stool and a non-slip surface nearby, with a helper's hand always available to assist entry and exit. The flat floor and the stainless steel frame's 6 support points give a stable base that does not shift under the candidate's weight.
Can it be used indoors and outdoors?
Yes, with no modification or extra accessory. The same baptistry works in a sanctuary, a tent, or a garden, letting a church use it for a regular service as well as an outdoor baptism at a camp or a gathering.
